There are several salmon streams and beaches along the road system. Drive out for a chance at all 5 species of Pacific Salmon, rainbows, steelhead and Char. Professional cleaning and packaging is available at Island Seafoods.

Starting in June until October it is possible to find the Kodiak Brown Bear down on the streams and rivers fishing and eating Salmon Berries. We can advise you on bear behavior and where to look. Box lunches can be arranged.
Chiniak, Anton Larson Bay, Fossil Beach, Pyramid Mountain, and White Sands Beach are just a few of the interesting places you can drive to and explore. The Highway follows Kodiak’s coastline with beaches and ocean views. Along the way there are several pull outs to stop, stretch your legs, or have a picnic. See Old Growth Sitka Spruce and watch for birds and animals along the way.
Hiking trail maps are available for all skill levels. Island Trials of Kodiak has located and improved several trails on Near Island, lovely hikes right from your doorstep. Abercrombie State Park is a short drive away and has several beautiful trails though Old Growth forests and along ocean cliffs. Watch for Humpback Whales blowing and Puffins among the rocky beaches. For the adventurous fisherman there are several mountain hikes to lakes for Rainbows and Char. Look for mountain goats along the way.
Kodiak winters are special. There is a variety of migrating waterfowl and birds that gather during the winter months offering the serious photographer unlimited “once in a lifetime” shots. Several hundred eagles plus exotic, rarely seen ducks and geese, come to the protection of our harbors and ice-free bays. Ask about a list of what birds to expect.
